1954 Press Photo Milwaukee Fire Department turns ladder into a radio tower

An aerial ladder was used as an antenna tower Saturday in a demonstration by the fire department on a lot east of the safety building. Radio signals were sent from the tower to a fire department car cruising the city. The test was held to prove that such a system could be employed in event of an emergency. From left are Fire Chief Edward E. Wischer, Oscar Boekeder, acting assistant chief; Joeseph M. Hadfield, consulting engineer to the Chicago fire department, and Felix Stehling, acting deputy chief.
