An Italian industry reborn. Santa Lucia, Italy: A typical example of the success of Italian reconstruction is the Angora factory in Santa Lucia, near Perugia, in central Italy. Destroyed by German mines during the war, factory has been completely rebuilt at a cost of $800,000. Until recently it was the only one of its kind in the world. About 10,000 independent rabbit breeders throughout Italy send their white wool to the factory by mail and the soft and fluffy material made from it is used to make clothing articles which are exported to all parts of the world. The factory, employing about 500, girls mostly, is the only large-scale angora producer concentrating solely on the rabbit wool production. Four girl workers, carrying dried wool into rooms for processing, walk past the factory's swimming pool, also used as water reserve.
